Solana staking: the complete guide to staking your SOL
Staking your SOL puts them to work securing the Solana network, in exchange for rewards. Currently between 4.6% and 5.4% a year. As of October 23, 2026, the best LST yields 5,43 % (mSOL).
How much does staking SOL earn?
Rewards come from network inflation and MEV tips, paid every epoch (about a day). The biggest LSTs right now, APY measured on-chain:
| LST | APY | Size |
|---|---|---|
| mSOL | 5,43 % | 2,3 M SOL |
| JupSOL | 5,30 % | 5,2 M SOL |
| dSOL | 5,04 % | 2,8 M SOL |
| JitoSOL | 4,76 % | 10,4 M SOL |
| JSOL | 4,75 % | 1,2 M SOL |
| vSOL | 4,74 % | 1,3 M SOL |
Example: 10 SOL staked at 5,43 % become about 10.54 SOL after a year.
Liquid staking (LST) or native staking?
- Liquid staking : you swap your SOL for an LST (JitoSOL, mSOL, JupSOL, bSOL…). The token gains value every epoch. Sell it anytime or use it in DeFi.
- Native staking : you delegate your SOL to a validator. You stay the sole owner with no protocol risk, but you must deactivate and wait for the epoch to end to withdraw.
How to stake SOL, step by step
- Have SOL in a wallet : Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, with at least 0.1 SOL.
- Compare LSTs and validators : Open Soltovo and compare APY and risk score.
- Choose the amount : Keep about 0.01 SOL for fees.
- Sign in your wallet : The transaction goes straight to Solana; the app never touches your funds.
Risks to know
- A bug in the LST program (hence the appeal of big, older, audited LSTs).
- A price gap (depeg) if you sell an illiquid LST quickly.
- A validator going down or raising its commission: your yield drops.
- SOL’s price moves: staking grows your SOL count, not their fiat value.
What about taxes?
An LST pays no income: the gain is in the price and is usually taxed when you sell for fiat. Native staking rewards are often treated as income. This guide isn’t tax advice; rules vary by country.
